Meet #42 Will Barlow
Will was here for about half the season last year and everyone was immediately impressed with his play and his grit. He never hesitated to stand up for a teammate or for himself. Although he has been a forward for most of his career, he has played defense almost exclusively since joining the Snakes because that was where he was needed.
Will is from Oakville, Ontario, a Toronto suburb. He played college hockey at Fredonia, New York, which is about half way between Buffalo and Pittsburgh. Not only did he play hockey for four years but he graduated in those four years with a degree in finance. Between hockey seasons, he has put his education to good use. He spent 3½ months in Wexford, Ireland, working for PNC Bank, and has worked in Toronto for a small “Boutique” brokerage firm. Will intends to keep up with the financial world in the off-season and to continue his education so that he will be in good position for his next career when he retires from hockey.
Will’s mother is a teacher, his father published the NHL Yearbook for several years and is now selling private label chocolate. (We are very eager to meet his father…provided he brings chocolate with him.) Will has two older brothers, ages 28 and 29, and he has a girlfriend, Maria, who graduated this Spring and is teaching in Buffalo. Maria was also a college athlete, she played basketball. Will says she will be down to visit during her Christmas break.

In the meantime, when he is not skating, Will and his roommate, Tim Green, have been playing a lot of tennis. (They each claim to be the better player.) Will likes to read and he intends to learn to play the piano. He brought a keyboard with him for practice. He is looking forward to doing volunteer service in the community and he is joining the Toastmasters. So, if asked, he will most definitely be glad to speak.
We are very glad to have Will here and hope that he enjoys his stay in Columbus.

DO YOU WANT TO BE PART OF A WORLD RECORD?
On December 20 during the 1st intermission of the game with Richmond, the Columbus Cottonmouth fans will try to break a world record by having the most people play kazoos at the same time. The current record is 3800 held by Greenville, South Carolina. We need to get more than 3800 people in the Snake Pit to hum for 5 minutes. We will be playing Christmas music so everyone will know the tunes. Everything Music is sponsoring the night and will provide up to 7500 kazoos to everyone who comes through the doors. This is a great opportunity for groups to get involved with the Power Play Fundraiser where you earn money for your club, have a great time at the hockey match, and be part of the Guinness Book of World Records. Call Jason Bray for details at 706-571-0086. Everyone who participates will sign in and get a certificate. The kazoo was invented in Macon so it is only right that the record should be in Georgia. We can do this. Let’s talk this up and pack the Pit.

A Note from Linda
Now that the hockey season is under way, the Booster Club is getting busy fundraising in order to have the money we need for the players’ Christmas gifts and the Christmas party. If you have not signed up to sell Chuck-a-Pucks, or buttons and pictures, we need you. So far, the West Side of the Civic Center is waaaay outselling the East Side. Come on East Side, let’s get going!
The purpose of the Booster Club is first of all to support the players, but there is no reason that we cannot have a good time while we do that. We will have some informal tailgates and will plan some weekends for road games for anyone interested. Of course, the Christmas Party is our biggest event of the season and is always fun for the players as well as our members.
We also want to make the meetings go smoothly so that we can get the necessary business completed as quickly as is possible. I want to personally apologize to each of you for letting the October meeting get out of hand. It was my job to maintain order and I did not do so. I have learned from that experience and it will not happen again. I ask for your cooperation to help keep things moving along. Let me know in advance if

have an item you want placed on the agenda, and please raise your hand and be recognized before speaking. I will gladly answer each and every question, and if I do not know the answer, I will get it for you. Please feel free to call or email me at any time. Let’s work together to be the best Booster Club in the SPHL!

Booster Club Meeting - November 20, 2008 – 6:30 p.m.
Columbus Main Library Auditorium
We will be finalizing plans for the Christmas party which will be December 21st, FOP Lodge, at 4:00 p.m.
Please bring your donation for the Christmas baskets. We are trying to get enough to do a boy’s basket, girl’s basket, and adult basket. You can also bring the items to the Coach’s Shows on November 11 and 17.
We need members to sell Chuck-a-Pucks and Buttons and Pictures. Visiting Hospitality also needs volunteers to help feed the visiting players. If you have not done this, it really is an eye-opener to meet the other teams up close and personal.
Remember…if you have new business, please let Linda know in advance so that you can be put on the agenda
